The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has presented Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 23 companies covering 44 products in Enugu State, reaffirming its commitment to quality assurance, consumer protection and the competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony on behalf of the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, the Director, South East Region, Mr. Chukwuma Lemachi Aharanwa, said the MANCAP certification scheme remains a critical tool for ensuring that locally manufactured products meet the required Nigerian Industrial Standards.
He noted that the certification enhances consumer confidence, improves the competitiveness of Nigerian products and creates greater opportunities for manufacturers to access regional and international markets.
Aharanwa also highlighted the Organisation’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives, including the Electronic MANCAP (E-MANCAP) platform and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Product Identification Scheme (SONPIS), which are designed to simplify the certification process, improve product traceability and provide greater support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
He reaffirmed SON’s commitment to working closely with manufacturers to promote quality, standardisation and industrial growth in line with the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda.
Representing the Enugu State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, Mr. Ifeanyi Onah, commended SON for its sustained efforts in promoting industrial development and protecting consumers through effective standardisation and conformity assessment.
He encouraged manufacturers to take advantage of Enugu State’s business-friendly environment to expand their operations and contribute to economic growth, job creation and increased local production.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the certified companies pledged to maintain the quality standards required under the MANCAP scheme, reaffirming their commitment to producing safe, reliable and high-quality products for Nigerian consumers.
The presentation of the certificates underscores SON’s continued drive to strengthen quality infrastructure, boost consumer confidence and enhance the competitiveness of locally manufactured products in domestic and export markets.
