SON Presents ISO Certification to Maritime Academy Of Nigeria

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has formally presented the Integrated Management System (IMS) Certificate for ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO 21001:2025 (Educational Organization Management System) to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, in Akwa Ibom State.
The certificate presentation ceremony, held on May 26, 2026, at the Academy’s premises in Oron, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s quest for quality assurance, operational excellence, and global competitiveness in maritime education and training.
Speaking at the event, the Director General and Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, praised the Maritime Academy of Nigeria for its unwavering commitment to quality education, institutional excellence, and continual improvement through the successful implementation of an Integrated Management System that conforms to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2025 standards.
According to him, the achievement reflects the Academy’s dedication to maintaining internationally recognized standards in both educational delivery and organizational management.
Dr. Okeke described the certification as another major milestone in the Academy’s continuous drive towards institutional excellence, quality assurance, international competitiveness, and sustainable development within Nigeria’s maritime education and training sector.
He congratulated the Governing Council, management, staff, cadets, and stakeholders of the Academy for attaining the prestigious certification, noting that the accomplishment further strengthens the institution’s reputation as a leading maritime training institution in Africa.
“The Maritime Academy of Nigeria occupies a strategic and critical position in the development of maritime manpower for Nigeria and the global maritime industry. Since its establishment in 1977 and subsequent upgrade in 1988, the Academy has remained committed to producing highly skilled professionals in merchant shipping, marine engineering, maritime transport operations, logistics, and other maritime-related services,” he stated.
The SON chief executive noted that the Academy’s vision of becoming an internationally recognized centre of excellence in maritime education and training is clearly demonstrated through the successful attainment of the dual ISO certification.
He further emphasized that certification to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2025 standards is a strong indication of the Academy’s commitment to quality management, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, educational excellence, and continual improvement.
The certification is expected to enhance the Academy’s capacity to deliver world-class maritime education and training, while positioning it to meet the evolving demands of the global maritime industry and contribute more effectively to Nigeria’s maritime development agenda.
