TotalEnergies, in partnership with Eni and QatarEnergy, has signed an agreement with the Lebanese government to commence exploration activities in offshore Block 8.
Under the initial work programme, the consortium will undertake the acquisition of a 1,200-kilometre 3D seismic survey aimed at further evaluating the block’s hydrocarbon potential and improving geological understanding of the area.
Commenting on the development, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, said the company remains committed to exploration in Lebanon despite the unsuccessful outcome of the Qana well drilled in Block 9.
“Although the drilling of the Qana well on Block 9 did not give positive results, we remain committed to pursuing our exploration activities in Lebanon. We will now focus our efforts on Block 8, together with our partners Eni and QatarEnergy and in close cooperation with Lebanese authorities,” Pouyanné stated.
