On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority, I congratulate the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and stakeholders in the country’s maritime sector on the occasion of the 2018 edition of the World Maritime Day.
This year’s edition is of particular significance in that it marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the IMO and gives us the opportunity to review the accomplishments of this United Nations agency towards the promotion of safe, secure, environment friendly, efficient and sustainable shipping operations around the world.

The theme for the year:  “IMO 70: Our Heritage – Better Shipping for a Better Future,” itself speaks to the responsibility that we all owe this and future generations towards enduring that the IMO successes in the all-important task of making maritime operations safe and efficient in the overall interest of us all.

For us at the NPA, we are committed to exploring all opportunities, including collaborations with sister agencies, international organisations and private sector participants towards leaving the Nigerian maritime better and sustainably more efficient than we met it. It is a commitment that I hope we can all commit ourselves.

I want to thank you for listening as I wish you all a very happy World Maritime Day.

God bless!
