The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has commissioned its ultramodern Police Post, marking a significant milestone in strengthening patient safety, staff protection, and environmental security within the hospital.
The facility was commissioned by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, underscoring the hospitalโ€™s commitment to proactive security management and institutional collaboration.
The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Edo State, Rt. Hon. Festus Odianose Ebea; the Commissioner for Works, Edo State, Hon. Dr. Felix Akhabue; alongside other distinguished dignitaries, security stakeholders, hospital management, and members of the UBTH community.
In his address, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, represented by DCP Isah Lawal, commended the Chief Medical Director, Prof. (Mrs.) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, for the laudable initiative and effective collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and noted that the establishment of the Police Post would enhance rapid response and improve safety across the hospital environment.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Public Safety and Security praised the Chief Medical Director for her leadership and foresight in prioritising security infrastructure. He stated that the facility would strengthen security operations within UBTH and deepen collaboration among relevant security institutions in safeguarding lives and property.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director reaffirmed that safety remains a critical component of quality healthcare delivery. She highlighted that the Police Post aligns with the ๐”๐๐“๐‡ ๐‚๐€๐‘๐„๐’ mission, providing a safe, secure, and enabling environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
As part of the commissioning activities, the Honourable Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Rt. Hon. Festus Odianose Ebea, performed the tape-cutting ceremony, while the plaque was unveiled by the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon. Dr. Felix Akhabue.
The edifice is a state-of-the-art facility thoughtfully designed by the Physical Planning Division of UBTH under the leadership of Arc. (Mrs.) Monica Irhibhogbe. It provides a functional and comfortable working environment to support effective coordination, surveillance, and rapid security response.
The event, which attracted several prominent personalities, also witnessed the presence of members of the Police Officersโ€™ Wives Association (POWA), Edo State Chapter, led by their Chairperson, Mrs. Helen Agbonika; members of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide, led by Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture; the Okaighele of Ugbowo Community, Mr. Charles Enabulele; the Divisional Police Officer, Ugbowo Division, CSP Kolawole Aremu; the Area Commander, Ekiadolor, ACP Umar Garba; officials of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA); and other distinguished guests.
The commissioning of the ultramodern Police Post reinforces UBTHโ€™s commitment to setting standards not only in healthcare excellence but also in safety, security, and institutional collaboration.
