The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, has recorded a seamless leadership transition with the assumption of office of Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DCC) Moses Wale Adewole as the Acting Customs Area Controller. His appointment follows the redeployment of the outgoing Controller, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Lagos.
Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, DCC Adewole expressed profound appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the entire Management team of the Service for the confidence and trust reposed in him. He described his appointment as a call to higher service and pledged to uphold professionalism, integrity, discipline and teamwork in advancing the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Acting Controller commended Comptroller Aliyu for his exemplary leadership and notable achievements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and stakeholder engagement. He assured officers and stakeholders that his administration would consolidate on the gains recorded and work assiduously to surpass existing milestones.
DCC Adewole outlined his operational priorities to include enhanced and transparent revenue collection, strengthened anti-smuggling operations through effective collaboration with sister agencies, continuous capacity building and improved welfare of officers, as well as the promotion of strong work ethics and discipline. He also pledged sustained engagement with traditional institutions, business communities, importers, exporters and other stakeholders across Oyo and Osun States.
In his remarks, the outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, described his tenure as fulfilling and impactful. He said the period was marked by strong collaboration with the governments and people of Oyo and Osun States, effective synergy with sister security agencies and sustained engagement with traditional rulers within the Command’s area of responsibility.
Comptroller Aliyu highlighted the Command’s improved revenue performance, attributing the success to enhanced compliance, structured engagement with excise factories and the deployment of the B’odogwu Unified Customs Management System. He also commended the officers and men of the Command for their professionalism and resilience, which translated into significant anti-smuggling achievements and the protection of the national economy.
The outgoing Controller urged his successor to sustain capacity-building initiatives, deepen engagement with border communities and ensure the completion of the Command’s Corporate Social Responsibility project—the proposed solar-powered healthcare centre at Iragbiji.
A statement issued by the Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, noted that the ceremony concluded with goodwill messages and a reaffirmation of commitment by both officers to service excellence, continuity and the overall vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.
