The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has met with the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, to explore how digital identity can support the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
During the meeting, Alake said a credible digital identity system is critical to effective governance and will enhance efforts to sanitise the mining industry through improved regulation, security, transparency and accountability.
According to the Minister, integrating trusted identity data into the administration of the mining sector will enable government to better track activities, strengthen regulatory oversight and make informed policy decisions based on reliable data.
He noted that these measures are essential to addressing longstanding challenges in the sector while creating a more transparent and investment-friendly mining environment.
The discussions also focused on opportunities created by the new National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act to deepen collaboration among government institutions.
Alake said stronger inter-agency cooperation, backed by technology and trusted data, would improve governance, facilitate investment and support the successful implementation of reforms in the solid minerals industry.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation and institutional partnerships to build a modern, transparent and globally competitive mining sector capable of contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.
