The people of Apomu in Nigeria and in Diaspora came together to celebrate Apomu Day on February 10, 2024.
Apomu day is an eagerly anticipated event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and investment opportunities in the town.
The event was organised by Apomu Descendants Union, ADU, in Nigeria and Diaspora.
In his welcome address Bashorun Abass Soliu, President of Apomu Descendants Union, ADU said the ancient Kingdom is investment-friendly and very receptive to investors and tourists.” The Kingdom boasts of the oldest ancient market in Yoruba land, which we want to develop to international standard” Adding that one of the purposes of this year’s Apomu Day is to raise #250 million naira for the completion of the Ultra-modern Palace.
In his speech, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu thanked Apomu indigenes for their unprecedented support since he became the King four years ago as the 14th Alapomu of Apomu. He said their tremendous support has been the driving force in his achievements so far. ” I appreciate you all and l do not take your support for granted”.
Senator Olalere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, representing Osun West Senatorial District, also spoke at the event. He commended Oba Afolabi as a paramount ruler who champions the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture and heritage. He noted the significant contribution the Monarch has made to the progress and development of Apomu.
Similarly, Honourable Lanre Ladebo, the first person from Apomu to be in National Assembly since 1960, commended Oba Afolabi in his efforts in promoting cohesion peace and progress in the community. Oladebo, who is a Member, House of Representatives, Ayedaade/ Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, said the celebration of Apomu Day is a unifying force that strengthens the cultural history, unity and development of Apomu.
The event which took place in ADC Grammar school, Oke Ola, Apomu. Among those who attended were Osun state Commissioner for Energy who represented Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Olofa of Offa, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Olubayo Adesola Windapo, Alara of Ara Kingdom, Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, the Owaloko of Iloko- Ijesha, the Olubosin of Ifetedo Oba Akinola Akinrera, former Majority Leader Osun state House of Assembly, Hon Maroof Olanrewaju and Azeez Mao, Chairman, Isokan local government.
