The Corps Marshal/Chief Executive Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has decried increase in Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) involving Fleet Operators across the country.
In his presentation at the just concluded Nigeria Auto Journalists Association lecture in Lagos, Oyeyemi said information at FRSC’s database indicates that from January to June, 2016 “about 183 cases were reported which resulted in 226 deaths, 760 people injured and the involvement of 2,326 persons”.
He advised motorists and other road users to be safety conscious and to abide by laid down rules and regulations always.
He told the audience that the speed limiter web monitoring portal is for monitoring the activities of all FRSC accredited speed limiter vendors online and “archive same information in the central database, creating secured server channels, enhancing security and management of data”.
Oyeyemi also used the opportunity to caution motorists against driving without a valid drivers’ licence.
The Corps Marshal said the cost of driver’s licence remains N6.350, adding that a five-year duration was only added to the three-year licence with a cost of N10,350 to give motorists a new option.
He said: “We have not increased the cost of processing the licence. It remains N6,350. What we have done is to give people the option of taking either for three years or five years. The five-year licence is available at N10,350.”
