The Benue State Government has rolled out a digital system for the award of land titles and title transfers in a move aimed at eliminating bureaucracy and reducing hardship in land administration.
The Director of Capacity Building and Stakeholders Engagement at the Benue Geographic Information Service (BENGIS), Mr. Terna Kawen, disclosed this on Wednesday in Makurdi.
Kawen said Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed total compliance with the new online application process, stressing that all land title and title transfer applications must now be processed exclusively through the digital platform.
He explained that the initiative was driven by BENGIS in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Survey and the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC).
According to him, the system features a state-of-the-art online application portal that enables landowners and prospective applicants to process land titles and title transfers from anywhere, without the need for repeated physical visits.
“The portal, powered by BDIC, is accessible at www.bengis.benuestate.gov.ng and is designed to simplify land transactions, improve transparency, and eliminate the rigours of repeated travel to the BENGIS office in Makurdi,” Kawen said.
He noted that during a recent stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Makurdi, Governor Alia expressed concern over the prolonged procedures previously associated with acquiring land titles, adding that the digitisation policy is intended to ease the burden on citizens and promote efficient land business across the state.
Kawen further explained that the new system allows applicants to submit requests, track the progress of their applications, and complete all necessary processes online from the comfort of their homes.
He urged members of the public to take advantage of the innovation, describing it as a significant step towards modern governance, transparency, and improved ease of doing business in Benue State.
