Chery Automobile is ramping up plans to enter Nigeria’s commercial vehicle space, in a strategic move that reflects rising confidence in the country’s automotive market and growing demand for business mobility solutions.
Already, the Chinese auto giant is in discussions with its local partner, Carloha Nigeria, to broaden its presence beyond passenger vehicles and capture opportunities in logistics, transportation, and enterprise operations.
The development was disclosed by Mr. Kim Luo, Country Director, Passenger Cars at Chery International, during a high-level business visit to Carloha Nigeria, the authorised distributor of Chery vehicles in Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, Kim Luo said the company’s growing footprint in Nigeria—driven by strong acceptance and rapid market penetration of its passenger vehicle lineup—has created a solid foundation for further investment. He emphasised that Nigeria remains a key strategic market for Chery’s long-term growth in Africa.
“The Nigerian market has shown remarkable potential and resilience. The positive reception of our passenger vehicles has given us the confidence to explore deeper investments, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment, where we see strong demand and growth opportunities,” he said.
The proposed expansion is expected to introduce a range of durable, high-performance commercial vehicles tailored to the needs of Nigerian businesses, spanning logistics, transportation, construction, and other enterprise operations. The move aligns with Chery’s broader global strategy of delivering innovative mobility solutions across diverse markets.
Carloha Nigeria, which has played a central role in establishing the Chery brand locally, described the development as a major milestone for the country’s automotive sector. The company reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investments through enhanced operations, improved after-sales services, and customer-focused initiatives.
Managing Director of Carloha Nigeria, Sola Adigun, said the planned expansion highlights the shared commitment of both companies to industry growth.
“This planned expansion underscores not only Chery’s confidence in Nigeria but also our shared commitment to contributing meaningfully to the growth of the automotive sector. We are proud to be at the forefront of this journey, bringing world-class automotive solutions closer to Nigerian consumers and businesses,” he said.
Carloha currently offers a wide range of Chery passenger vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and pickup trucks, available in internal combustion engine, hybrid, and fully electric models. The company also provides its CarlohaCare 6-6-7 package, which includes a six-year warranty, six years of free service, and a seven-day repair promise for customers.
Industry analysts say the increased participation of global automotive brands like Chery could stimulate growth across Nigeria’s automotive value chain, create jobs, and improve access to modern and efficient transport solutions.
As Nigeria strengthens its position as a hub for automotive innovation and investment in West Africa, the collaboration between Chery International and Carloha Nigeria is seen as a strong vote of confidence in the country’s economic outlook and the future of its mobility ecosystem.
