As part of the 2024 Christmas celebrations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, joined frontline troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Operation SAFE HAVEN for a festive luncheon on December 25, 2024.
The event took place at the Headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN in Jos, Plateau State. Represented by the Commander of the Armoured Corps, Major General MS Ahmed, the COAS delivered a goodwill message, extending heartfelt Christmas greetings to officers, soldiers, and their families.
He expressed gratitude for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. Lieutenant General Oluyede urged the troops to remain disciplined, focused, and loyal to constituted authority while fulfilling their constitutional duties in a joint and multi-agency environment.
The COAS also acknowledged the support and strategic guidance of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity, safeguarding national interests, and supporting civil authorities in a collaborative setting.
In his welcome remarks, Major General AE Abubakar, General Officer Commanding 3 Division NA and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, commended the troops for their operational achievements over the year. He encouraged them to redouble their efforts, emphasizing the need for vigilance and dedication to overcome challenges in the Joint Operations Area. The GOC also praised the leadership and strategic direction provided by the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa OFR, and the COAS, which have led to significant operational successes through both kinetic and non-kinetic measures.
The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including heads of security agencies, retired and serving senior military officers, government officials, and captains of industry.
Highlights of the celebration included cultural dance performances by the Irigwe and National Youth Service Corps cultural troupes, symbolic serving of meals by the COAS, the cutting of a Christmas cake with troops, musical performances, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.NA
