The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Area Command, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have strengthened operational ties in a renewed effort to curb the rising incidence of cross-border crimes along the nation’s northern frontier.
The development followed a courtesy visit by the newly deployed NSCDC State Commandant, Corps Commander Abbas Dan Ile Moriki, to the Customs Area Command in Katsina.
The visit provided both agencies with the opportunity to review ongoing security efforts and discuss ways to enhance inter-agency collaboration.
Speaking during the engagement, Area Controller Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss said that inter-agency synergy had become indispensable to securing Nigeria’s borders.
He noted that closer collaboration would not only strengthen border security but also help prevent revenue leakages and dismantle criminal networks operating around border communities.
He said, “Strengthening collaboration among sister agencies is critical to safeguarding our nation.”
In response, the NSCDC State Commandant commended the long-standing partnership between the two organisations, describing it as a crucial step towards building a united security architecture in line with the Federal Government’s expectations.
He stated that both agencies were committed to sustaining joint operations, enhancing community engagement, and exploring technology-driven approaches to enhance border surveillance.
“I truly appreciate this partnership and believe it will significantly improve border coordination,” he added.
According to the CAC, the cooperation reflects the broader national strategy of promoting inter-agency collaboration in the fight against insecurity, aimed at ensuring safer borders and better protection for citizens across Katsina State.
At the end of the engagement, both organisations pledged to intensify cooperation in intelligence sharing, surveillance, and coordinated patrols aimed at tackling smuggling, arms trafficking, and other transnational crimes undermining national security.
