Customs, EFCC Step Up Joint Efforts Against Financial Crimes

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’ Headquarters, Lagos, has intensified its commitment to inter-agency collaboration following a courtesy visit by senior officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), aimed at strengthening the fight against financial crimes and enhancing national security.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Akaninyene Edeminam, the visit form part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between both agencies.
According to the statement, the EFCC delegation was led by the Acting Zonal Director, Lagos 1, Assistant Chief Executive I (ACE I) Adebayo Adeniyi, and was received by the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘A’, ACG Mohammed Babandede.
Welcoming the delegation, ACG Babandede described inter-agency collaboration as a core policy thrust of the NCS. He noted that effective intelligence sharing and coordinated operations remain critical to achieving shared national objectives, including trade facilitation, economic growth, and the protection of public health and safety.
“I am very happy to receive all of you. This visit underscores the importance of collaboration among agencies as we work together to facilitate trade, boost the economy, ensure national security, and safeguard the wellbeing of our citizens,” he said.
In his remarks, ACE I Adeniyi expressed appreciation for the warm reception and described the visit as a clear demonstration of the strong partnership and mutual trust between the EFCC and the NCS. He stressed that security and regulatory agencies must work together to effectively address economic and financial crimes.
He further emphasised the need for sustained cooperation, particularly in joint investigations and intelligence-sharing initiatives, noting that such collaboration is essential to advancing national development and strengthening institutional effectiveness.
