The Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), Ismaeel Ahmed, has announced a strategic collaboration with the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, aimed at advancing Nigeria’s transition to compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles (EVs).
Ahmed disclosed this following what he described as a “very constructive meeting” with the FRSC leadership, where both parties explored ways to deepen cooperation in support of cleaner, more affordable transportation options amid rising transport costs.
According to him, a major focus of the engagement was on strengthening safety frameworks to support the growing adoption of alternative fuel vehicles across the country.
“A big part of the conversation was around safety—setting clear standards, improving inspections, and ensuring officers are well-equipped to identify compliant vehicles on the road,” he said.
He revealed that both institutions have agreed to establish a joint working group to drive the initiative forward in a practical and timely manner.
The collaboration is expected to enhance regulatory clarity, boost public confidence in CNG and EV technologies, and ensure that safety considerations remain central to Nigeria’s evolving transport landscape.
Ahmed noted that the partnership presents a significant opportunity to make transportation safer, more affordable, and environmentally sustainable, adding that both agencies are committed to delivering tangible results.
