Dangote Cement Plc has reinforced its commitment to decarbonisation and sustainable logistics with the acquisition of an additional 1,500 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve environmental performance across its operations.
The company said the expansion of its alternative-energy transportation programme is a key component of its green logistics strategy, aimed at reducing dependence on diesel-powered trucks while improving operational efficiency and lowering its carbon footprint.
The initiative forms part of Dangote Cement’s broader sustainability agenda, which integrates environmental stewardship, energy efficiency and responsible business practices across its operations in ten African countries.
Speaking on the company’s sustainability drive, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Plc, Arvind Pathak, said sustainability remains embedded in every aspect of the company’s operations and growth strategy.
“At Dangote Cement, sustainability is not a standalone initiative; it is embedded in the way we operate, invest and grow. As we expand our footprint across Africa, we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact through cleaner energy sources, improved operational efficiency and innovative logistics solutions such as our growing CNG-powered fleet,” Pathak said.
He added that the company aims to create long-term value for shareholders while supporting Africa’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient future.
Pathak noted that while cement remains essential for infrastructure development across the continent, the company is committed to producing it in a manner that minimizes emissions, conserves resources, protects the environment and delivers lasting benefits to host communities.
As part of its sustainability progress, Dangote Cement also announced that it earned an upgraded ‘B’ rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its climate and water management initiatives, reflecting growing international recognition of its environmental performance.
The company said energy optimisation remains central to its sustainability strategy, with a favourable energy mix helping to lower production costs while reducing emissions across its operations.
Beyond environmental sustainability, Dangote Cement said it continues to strengthen corporate governance and social responsibility. The company currently has 28 per cent female representation on its Board, with directors drawn from seven nationalities, underscoring its commitment to diversity and global best practices.
It also noted that its sustainability programmes are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of responsible industrialisation, climate action, economic growth and community development.
Dangote Cement said the combination of green logistics, cleaner energy investments and responsible governance supports its ambition of becoming one of the world’s most sustainable cement manufacturers while creating shared value for investors, employees, customers, host communities and governments across Africa.
