
The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) is to collaborate with the forum of Insurance Practitioners in Edo State for effective service delivery.
This was revealed by the representative of the Executive Chairman, Sir Michael Ohio-Ezomo, Executive Director, Other Revenue, when he received the leadership of the forum of Insurance Practitioners in Edo State, who were on a courtesy visit to the EIRS Corporate Head Office in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Ohio-Ezomo while addressing the body of insurance practitioners emphasized the important role insurance companies plays in the society.
He informed that through the motor vehicle registration and renewal process put in place, the Revenue Service has been able to advocate and ensure motorists comply with the minimum required third party insurance policy.
Speaking further, he stated “the EIRS is making efforts at bringing a seamless vehicle registration and renewal process for vehicle owners in Edo State via collaboration with the FRSC at improving the database of all motorists, secure a constant supply of number plates as well as increase the number of Driver’s License Capturing Centres from six to twelve in Edo State”
The Executive Director commended the efforts of insurance practitioners in Edo for the role it plays in enlightening the public on insurance in the past twenty-three years.
He equally assured of the Service’s partnership and support on insurance issues.
Earlier, the leader of the visiting team, Dr. Bibowei James Braie congratulated the Board on its constitution and the achievement recorded so far as well as the Service’s business minded approach to revenue issues.
Chief B. J Braie, informed that the recent increment in the third party insurance policy also provides for an ECOWAS Brown Card that covers a Nigerian policy holder when in any of the ECOWAS member nation.
While noting that the insurance industry is heavily regulated by several bodies, Chief B.J Braie however appealed for a partnership and synergy with the EIRS for insurance education and policy formulation that will benefit citizens particularly and the State in general.
The visit was necessitated by the EIRS’ review of its Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) processes, aimed at ensuring sanity within the space.
