A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Transport, led by Mr. Temitope Adeleke, Assistant Chief Technical Officer for Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration, visited the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Wednesday.
The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into LAMATA’s successful development of a Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) system, as outlined in the recently enacted Lagos Transport Policy.
During the visit, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA, emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between Federal and State governments to ensure the implementation of effective transport systems across Nigeria.
Engr. Osa Konyeha, Technical Adviser for Corporate and Investment Planning Department at LAMATA, provided a detailed overview of the agency’s structure and operations to the visiting delegation.
The discussion focused on the strategies employed to promote NMT, including the development of dedicated cycling and pedestrian paths, as well as public awareness campaigns.
The delegation from the Federal Ministry of Transport included Angela C.Ohadiugha, Louisa Offiong, Engr. Agwu Uchenna, and Abubakar Usman. LAMATA was represented by Mr. Ayodipupo Quadri, Mr. Muiz Ogbara, and Engr. Femi Fayombo.
This visit marks a significant step towards fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration between federal and state authorities in the transportation sector. By learning from Lagos state’s successful NMT initiatives, the Federal Ministry of Transport aims to replicate and scale similar projects nationwide, promoting sustainable and efficient mobility for all.LAMATA
