Firm seeks support for NB’s golden pen award

As the deadline for the submission of entries for the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Breweries’ Golden Pen Awards closes on Friday, 19th August, 2016, the management of Thisday Newspaper has commended the initiative aimed at rewarding media excellence.
Speaking when a delegation of Nigerian Breweries visited the company, Mr. Emmanuel Efeni, the Newspaper’s Executive Director explained that the award is a worthy initiative that will spur journalists to greater heights.
Efeni also enjoined journalists to exploit the opportunity by submitting their entries for the award.
A press statement issued by NB explained that other members of Thisday team that commended the initiative by Nigerian Breweries included Ayo Arowolo, Thisday’s Editor at Large and the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the newspaper; Mr. Biodun Eromosele, its Capital Market Correspondent and other management staff.
Meanwhile, Kufre Ekanem, Nigerian Breweries Corporate Affairs Adviser, explained that intending interested journalists can still be part of the awards, by submitting their entries ahead of the deadline.
The awards will reward journalists in three categories – the Golden Pen Reporter of the Year, Golden Pen Photo Journalist of the Year and Golden Pen Nigerian Breweries Report of the Year.
Like the previous seven editions, Ekanem disclosed that the theme for this year’s edition is Education, Youth Empowerment and Talent Development.
He noted that the award was introduced to promote professionalism and objective reportage of events in Nigeria. It is also meant to reward such journalists who abide by the ethics of the journalism profession.
He said: “In March 2014, when we gathered here to announced plans for the 6th Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Award, it was the beginning of the expanded platform that draws attention to critical development areas by rewarding journalists who excel in reporting in themed areas,”
Ekanem also stressed that the previous editions had strengthened the credibility of the NB Golden Pen Awards because they have made it more inclusive and ensured an increased media buy-in.
The grand ceremony for this year’s awards which is the 8th in the series will hold on Friday October 28, 2016 in Lagos.
