The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially kickstarted its 2025 Ember Months Sensitization Campaign, reigniting awareness across Nigeria on the need for responsible road use as the year-end travel season approaches.
The nationwide campaign was flagged off in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, who underscored the critical role of individual responsibility in reducing road traffic crashes. This year’s theme, “Take Responsibility for Your Actions — Stop Distracted Driving,” challenges Nigerians to adopt safe driving habits and reject all forms of recklessness on the road.
At the Port Harcourt Town Hall Meeting, which marked the beginning of this national movement, key stakeholders from the public and private sectors joined hands to voice their commitment to promoting road safety. The event was honoured by the Executive Governor of Rivers State, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Benibo Ababraka, who reiterated the state’s support for FRSC’s life-saving initiatives.
In his address, Corps Marshal Mohammed emphasized that road safety is not the sole responsibility of enforcement agencies but a shared duty among drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike. He called for a mental shift toward caution, discipline, and empathy on the highways.
“This campaign is not just about compliance; it’s about saving lives and ensuring that every trip ends in safety, not sorrow,” he stated, urging the public to steer clear of distracted driving, overspeeding, and other dangerous habits.
Similar sensitization programs will be replicated in all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the Corps intensifies efforts to curb the annual surge in road crashes during the Ember Months.
With collaborative action and sustained public enlightenment, FRSC aims to build a culture where every journey is safe, and every life matters.
