
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has officially assumed duty as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, succeeding IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (Rtd), PhD, NPM, who served as the 22nd indigenous head of the Nigeria Police Force from June 19, 2023 to February 24, 2026.
IGP Disu, born on April 13, 1966, hails from Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State and brings to the office over three decades of distinguished service marked by extensive operational, investigative, intelligence, and administrative experience.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, and until his appointment, served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
The new police chief possesses an impressive academic profile, including a Master of Science degree in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023), MSc in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022), and an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos (2019). He also holds an MSc in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010), a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University (2000), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Lagos State University (1990).
Throughout his career, IGP Disu has held several strategic and leadership positions across the country. His notable postings include Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja; Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State Police Commands; and Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and Intelligence at the Force Intelligence Bureau.
He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the Intelligence Response Team, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos from 2015 to 2021, Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Criminal Investigation Department in Rivers State, and Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping operations in Rivers State.
Other key roles he held include Officer in Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ondo and Oyo States, Divisional Police Officer in Ondo State, Directing Staff at the Nigerian Police Academy, Kano, and Aide-de-Camp to a former Governor of Lagos State.
He also served in training and investigative capacities, including as Officer in Charge of Anti-Fraud at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Katsina.
On the international front, IGP Disu led the first-ever Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan in 2005, contributing to peacekeeping efforts in the crisis-ridden Darfur region.
Beyond policing, he is an accomplished martial artist and sports enthusiast. He previously served as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association and holds a third black belt in Judo. He also won a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships, among several other honours.
IGP Disu is a member of several professional bodies, including the International Academy of Forensics, the National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

In his remarks, the new Acting Inspector-General of Police reassured officers and men of the Force, stakeholders, and the general public of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms, strengthening internal security, enhancing community partnerships, and advancing the Force’s mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices.
He also called for continued public support and cooperation as the Force under his leadership seeks to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery nationwide.
