The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday inaugurated its Gombe State Sector Command’s new office complex to improve traffic situation in the state.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the office was inaugurated by Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
While inaugurating the office complex, Yahaya said that the commission needed a befitting office to achieve the commission’s mandate of eradicating road traffic accidents and creating safe motoring environment for the state.
He charged the commission on the need to educate motorists on proper use of roads and the need to abide by traffic laws for the safety of citizens.
The governor hinted that the state government was working toward the establishment of the State’s Traffic Management Agency to complement the commission’s effort to improve traffic situation in the state.
The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi said it was long over due for the commission to have its own office where their activities would be properly coordinated.
According to Oyeyemi, he has given a directive that will see to the creation of units in all the 11 Local Government Areas of the state before the end of the second quarter of the year.
He added that such units would ensure that the commission’s presence was felt, in addition to data gathering and carrying out effective public awareness across the state.
He commended the Gombe State Government for the improvement in traffic lights installation, construction and renovation of roads as well as road beautification through massive tree planting across the state.
Oyeyemi also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for providing funding for the construction of office complexes across the country, adding “ the Gombe State Office Complex is the 13th office to be inaugurated in the country.”
