The Director General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu,MFR, has commended resolve by the management of Stallion Motors-Hyundai to introduce electric cars in Nigeria before the end of 2020.
Reacting to the development on Friday, Jelani said: This is an excellent development. Electric vehicles are not just the future, they are now“.
According to the NADDC boss, “Nigeria has no option but to embrace Vehicle Electrification, because all major automobile manufactures have either developed or in the process of developing them“.
Explaining further, Jelani said: “This is a very good development for Nigeria:
“The NADDC is committed to supporting EVs through direct and policy support of the following initiatives and opportunities:
“Nigeria is signatory to the 2016 Paris Accord which mitigates greenhouse gas emissions.
“EVs will allow us to meet those targets and provide cleaner air/cleaner environment for our people.
“EVs have far less parts/components, meaning they require less maintenance and hence less can go wrong.
“The limited number of needed components will allow Nigerian companies to more easily achieve higher percentages of local content.
“Hopefully the Nigerian passion for cars would inspire us to develop innovative solutions in power generation for the EVs and hence positively spill over to all other aspects of power needs in our lives.
“We are blessed with intelligent and innovative youth in the ICT sector, EVs with their embedded computerized systems will now have huge opportunity to be employed and productive.
“Vehicle Electrification provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs and the private sector to profitably set up charging stations and infrastructure”.
Stallion Group CEO, Mr Anant Badjatya, hinted recently of his company’s plan to officially launch into the Nigerian market
Hyundai – Kona, an Electric car regarded by European motoring journalists as world’s number one.
