The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen white pick-up vehicle in Abuja and handed it over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
The vehicle, with registration number YAB 677 XD, was recovered at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by the Tow Truck Team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command along the expressway leading to Berger in the Wuye axis of the Federal Capital Territory.
The recovery, according to the Corps, underscores the growing effectiveness of its operational intelligence, vigilance and rapid-response mechanisms, particularly in situations where road safety operations intersect with wider public security concerns.
FRSC personnel found the original vehicle documents inside the pick-up and used a telephone number contained in the documents to contact the purported owner, who was informed of the recovery.
Following the development, the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, invited the FCT Police Command to take custody of the vehicle and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding its theft and recovery.
The vehicle was formally handed over on behalf of the Sector Commander by DCC Sabitu Abdu, fsi, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nuhu Usman, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.
The Corps said the recovery demonstrated the critical role of its personnel beyond conventional traffic management, noting that road surveillance and professional vigilance could contribute significantly to the broader national security architecture.
While the primary mandate of the FRSC remains the prevention of road traffic crashes and promotion of safe road use, the Corps said alert personnel could also serve as an important first line of detection in identifying suspicious situations and protecting lives and property on the nation’s highways.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, commended the FCT Sector Command, particularly the Tow Truck Team, for their alertness, professionalism and commitment to duty.
Mohammed said the recovery was consistent with the Corps’ renewed emphasis on intelligence-led operations, inter-agency cooperation, technological integration and responsive road safety service delivery.
He stressed that every operational success that protects lives and property contributes to the broader objective of securing Nigeria’s road environment.
The Corps Marshal also reiterated the FRSC’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies through improved information sharing, rapid response and coordinated interventions on the nation’s highways.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious vehicles, activities and incidents to the appropriate authorities.
The FRSC said the successful recovery and handover of the vehicle represented another important demonstration of its commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding property and strengthening national security through professional and intelligence-driven road safety operations.
