FRSC Tasks Tanker Owners On Safety Valves

The Ogun State sector command of  Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised tanker owners to install safety valves and adhere to simple traffic regulations to avoid preventable mishaps on the highways. 

The Sector Commander, Mr Ahmed Umar, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, on Saturday. 

Umar spoke while reacting to the tanker ladened with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which exploded and razed 10 buildings at about 7.00 a.m. in Matogun area of Ifo Local Government of the state. 

The tanker exploded and burnt 10 houses but no life was lost. 

He noted that the tragedy would have been averted if the tanker driver adhered to the average speed limit.

“We are appealing to tanker owners to install safety valves to prevent the contents from leaking on the roads when a crash occurs. 

“In addition, the drivers should install speed limit device and reduce their speed, especially during this ember months to stem road crashes,” he said. 

The commander implored tanker owners to ensure that their vehicles were properly maintained before putting them on the highways. 

He cautioned youths against scooping petroleum on the roads when such an explosion occurred, to prevent a terrible disaster. 

Umar also emphasized the need for tanker drivers to embrace a safety culture to stem road crashes.
