The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Taraba State, has warned tyre dealers against sale of substandard or fake tyres to motorists in the state.
The State Sector Commander, Corp Commander Selina Williams, gave the warning at a meeting with the representatives of tyre dealers in Jalingo on Friday.
The sector commander briefed the dealers of the various road clashes in the state that were attributed to tyre burst based on Investigation.
“This meeting will also serve as caution to all of you because the command will work in collaboration with other security agencies in joint operation to rid Taraba of substandard tyres dealers .
“As dealers in tyres, you are considered stakeholders in road safety in the state and are supposed to key in fully into the command’s activities geared towards making Taraba free of substandard tyres.
“This will translate into reducing the rate of road crashes in the state ,’’ she said.
Williams called on the dealers to register an association to enable the command to organise regular meetings and trainings for the dealers, vulcanisers and transport unions for better results.
Mr Livinus Onyekere, the leader of the dealers thanked the sector commander for the opportunity to standardise their business.
“Our major challenge is that we are yet to come under one umbrella body, where we can speak with one voice and check the activities of the dealers and also vulcanisers.
He explained that only professionals vulcanisers would be able to know the different pressure gauge for different tyres. nan
