Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has inaugurated 100 ultra-modern buses and 50 taxis to enhance transportation in the state.
Performing the inauguration at Sabon-Gari Stadium, Kano on Sunday, Ganduje said it was in line with his administration’s transport master plan, aimed at providing efficient and affordable means of moving people from one location to another.
He said that the buses would be operating within the eight metropolitan local government areas of the state and beyond.
According to the governor, the objective of the gesture was to ease the mode of transportation and reduce traffic congestion in Kano city.
“Our administration has invested heavily in the construction of roads, infrastructure and overhead bridges, all geared toward making Kano a mega city that can compete with any city in the world.
“I assure you that 200 more ultra-modern buses will be captured in the next year’s budget so that they will be procured and made available to the general populace,” he said.
Ganduje urged people of the state to always conduct themselves in an orderly manner while accessing the services of the new buses.
He added that the Kanawa Bus Services would be following the Jogana-Yankura-Janguza route and other routes within the metropolis.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Saleh Kausani, commended all the stakeholders who had contributed toward the actualisation of the project.
Alhaji Ahmed Aminu, Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Kano Chambers of Commerce, industries, mines, and Agriculture (KACCIMA), said that the gesture was a testimony of good governance.
He maintained the ultra-modern mode of transportation would ease business activities and attract more investors to the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony was graced by stakeholders in the transportation industry, leaders of transport and tricycle unions and members of the public.
