The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has unveiled locally produced power transformers and power banks manufactured at the KEW-POWER workshop on Campus 3 of the institution.
The products successfully underwent the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) conformity assessment processes and received certification, marking a significant milestone in local manufacturing, technical skills development and standards compliance.
The Director, South-East Regional Operations, SON, Mr. Chukwuma Lemachi Aharanwa, who attended the unveiling, commended IMT and KEW-POWER for the achievement.
Aharanwa stressed the importance of maintaining consistent product quality, noting that certification comes with the responsibility of ensuring continued compliance with applicable standards.
Also present at the event were the Enugu State Coordinator, SON, Engr. Peter Ameh, and the Head of SON Engineering Laboratory, Engr. Emmanuel Kalu.
Ameh congratulated IMT and KEW-POWER, describing the development as a significant achievement for local manufacturing in the South-East.
He encouraged the manufacturers to sustain the quality of their products and work towards achieving international competitiveness.
The Rector of IMT, Prof. Gozie Sunday Ogbodo, explained that the initiative was part of the institution’s “One Diploma, One Skill” policy, designed to strengthen practical skills acquisition and encourage students to develop locally relevant products and services.
Ogbodo expressed the institution’s commitment to deepening its collaboration with SON to ensure continued compliance with quality requirements and applicable standards.
Following the unveiling, the SON delegation and other guests toured the KEW-POWER production facility, inspecting the machinery and various stages of the manufacturing process.
The initiative demonstrates the potential of stronger collaboration among technical institutions, industry and regulatory bodies to advance local manufacturing, strengthen technical skills and promote standards compliance in Nigeria.
