JEX Markets Limited, Nigeria’s energy commodities exchange and market infrastructure company, has announced the appointment of Dr. Blessing Ayemhere as its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), subject to the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
City Business News reports that Dr. Ayemhere is scheduled to formally assume office on 3 January 2026.
In his new role, Dr. Ayemhere will provide strategic leadership for JEX Markets as the company advances its mandate to build a transparent, liquid, and globally competitive marketplace for natural gas and other related energy products in Nigeria.
He will work closely with the Board, regulators, market participants, and infrastructure partners to launch trading activities, deepen market liquidity, enhance market integrity, and drive innovation across the JEX ecosystem.
Strong Professional Background
Dr. Ayemhere brings over two decades of senior-level experience spanning energy markets, infrastructure development, finance, and corporate leadership.
Most recently, he held executive leadership positions at Energia Energies Limited (Operator of PML 66) and Umugini Pipeline Infrastructure Limited, where he led large-scale commercial operations, strategic transformation initiatives, and growth programmes across energy-focused and infrastructure-related enterprises.
He is widely recognised for driving operational excellence, strengthening governance frameworks, and building resilient, performance-driven institutions. Dr. Ayemhere holds a Doctorate Degree from Swiss Business School, Switzerland, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, alongside other advanced professional qualifications.
Chairman’s Comment
Commenting on the appointment, the Chairman of JEX Markets Limited, Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, said the selection followed a rigorous process facilitated by Global Career Company (GCC).
“After a rigorous selection process facilitated by Global Career Company (GCC), we are delighted to welcome Dr. Blessing Ayemhere to JEX Markets at this critical phase of our journey.
He brings depth of experience, strategic clarity, and proven leadership across energy markets and infrastructure-led businesses. His appointment strengthens our capacity to execute our mandate of building a world-class, transparent, and efficient energy marketplace that supports Nigeria’s energy transition and industrial growth.”
CEO-Designate’s Response
Accepting the appointment, Dr. Ayemhere expressed appreciation to the Board for the confidence placed in him.
“I am honoured by the confidence reposed in me by the Board of JEX Markets Limited, and I look forward to assuming this role. JEX Markets represents a bold and necessary evolution in Nigeria’s energy market architecture. My priority will be to build a strong team, deploy robust market infrastructure, develop innovative products, and ensure that JEX delivers long-term value to market participants and the Nigerian economy.”

The company is committed to building a transparent, efficient, and trusted marketplace aligned with international best practices and Nigeria’s energy transition objectives.
