
President Bola Tinubu will, on Saturday, April 4, 2026 embark on an official visit to Ogun State for the commissioning of major infrastructure projects, including the Gateway International Airport in Iperu.
The airport, described as an ambitious initiative, is designed to position Ogun as a major aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria. As part of activities, the President will also commission two newly acquired aircraft under Gateway Air, marking the official takeoff of the state’s aviation programme in partnership with ValueJet.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Governor, Kayode Akinmade, the visit will feature a cargo operations showcase facilitated by the Skyway Aviation Handling Company, signalling readiness for full-scale logistics and freight operations.
Several strategic assets will also be inaugurated at the airport, including 1,000 electric bikes under the state’s electric mobility initiative, 80 security vehicles to enhance safety architecture, and a fleet of agricultural tractors aimed at boosting food production and supporting farmers.
Beyond the airport, President Tinubu is scheduled to commission the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road, a key link connecting the aviation hub to surrounding communities and improving accessibility.
The President will also inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and commission the Forward Operating Base (FOB) building to strengthen border security and facilitate trade.
The visit will further include the inspection and commissioning of the Gateway Aviation Village, a complementary development designed to support the state’s growing aviation ecosystem.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a post on his social media page, said the state’s aviation vision extends beyond the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, underscoring a broader plan to drive economic growth and connectivity.
