The Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) has appealed to the Federal Government to declare the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex a “national edifice”.
The President, Alhaji Suleiman Aliyu, made the appeal in Kaduna on Saturday at the 43rd Kaduna International Trade Fair.
Aliyu urged the Federal Government to do same as was done in the case of the National Arts Theatre in Lagos.
“This is on account of the nationwide attendance of our Trade Fair and the presence of international exhibitors, even during the most trying periods.
“The edifice will remain under the management and control of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, which holds the certificate of occupancy.
“The business community is optimistic that our request will be given due consideration by President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
He recalled that the prestigious trade fair complex was constructed by President Buhari when he was the Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).
He also noted that the edifice served not only Kaduna State, but virtually all the 36 states of the federation, hosting the annual Kaduna International Trade Fair.
Aliyu commended the Federal Government over the improved supply of electricity, which he said was stabilising in the state due to improved generating capacity and strengthened distribution network.
He also thanked the Kaduna State government for its efforts in facilitating the growth of business through provision of infrastructure, formulation of appropriate policies and other interventions.
According to him, the provision of critical infrastructure and other facilities across the state have fast-tracked socio-economic development in the state.
He, however, pointed out that the businesses of some members of KADCCIMA had been affected by the implementation of some of the policies and COVID-19 pandemic.
“We, therefore, passionately call on the state government to consider some form of urgent palliative measures to help these unfortunate businessmen and women”NAN.
