The Lagos State Government has evacuated over 230 of its indigenes studying at University of Jos following the recent security situation that led to the closure of the institution.
The evacuation, carried out through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, came in response to directives issued last week asking students to vacate the campus and hostels after academic activities were suspended.
To ensure the safety of the affected students, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the deployment of a convoy of luxury buses, accompanied by security escorts, to Jos for their safe return to Lagos.
The students arrived in Lagos on Sunday and were received by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, who reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
He said the safety and well-being of Lagos residents, particularly students pursuing education across the country, remain a top priority of the administration.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adeniran Kasali, urged parents and guardians of the evacuated students to remain calm, assuring them that the government had taken proactive steps to safeguard their children.
The evacuation exercise was coordinated by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Education and Students’ Union Affairs, Samuel Kappo.
The move underscores the state government’s responsiveness to emerging security concerns and its resolve to protect Lagos students wherever they may be studying across the country.
