Nigerian Navy Conducts Nationwide Q4 Route March

In the early hours of Saturday, 22 November 2025, all Nigerian Navy Commands, Units, Ships, and Establishments across the country simultaneously conducted the Fourth Quarter Route March Exercise. The routine but vital military tradition was aimed at strengthening physical fitness, sharpening mental alertness, and reinforcing esprit de corps among personnel.
The coordinated march began at Naval Base Abuja, where the Nigerian Navy Headquarters led the exercise. Across other bases and formations, personnel covered various distances, demonstrating unity, discipline, and operational preparedness in line with the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain and supporting national security objectives.
Participating Commands and Units included the Western, Eastern, and Central Naval Commands; Naval Training Command and Nigerian Naval College; Logistics Command; Special Operations Command; Naval Doctrine Command; Naval Dockyard Limited; Command Naval Drafting; Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) LUGARD; NNS PATHFINDER; and NNS JUBILEE.
Speaking in Abuja, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas—represented by the Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman—reaffirmed that physical fitness and mental alertness are indispensable to operational readiness. He commended the widespread participation, noting that the quarterly march forms part of the Navy’s drive to maintain a modern, motivated, and combat-ready force. Senior officers in other Commands echoed this message, stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and continuous training.
The involvement of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Security Service, and members of the National Youth Service Corps in several locations added significance to the event, underscoring the value of interagency collaboration in strengthening national security.
