The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusiveness in the maritime sector, while celebrating the resilience and contributions of women within the industry.
Dantsoho made the remarks while acknowledging the invaluable role women play in driving progress and innovation across the maritime value chain.
According to him, the NPA under his leadership has taken deliberate steps to ensure greater participation of women in key appointments and leadership roles within the organisation.
He explained that the move towards inclusiveness began with the composition of his immediate team, particularly the Technical Assistants, where women currently occupy 60 per cent of the positions while men make up the remaining 40 per cent.
The NPA boss said the decision reflects the Authority’s resolve to promote gender balance and create opportunities for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the maritime sector.
He noted that empowering women in leadership positions not only strengthens institutional capacity but also helps in building a more equitable and progressive industry.
Dantsoho therefore commended the remarkable women of the NPA and across the maritime sector for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence.
“We salute the remarkable women of NPA and beyond who continue to drive progress, break barriers, and shape a more equitable future for the sector,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to sustaining policies and initiatives that support women’s advancement and ensure that the maritime industry remains inclusive and forward-looking.
