NUPRC Advocates Sustainable Practices To Protect Environment

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible energy regulation as it joined the global community in commemorating the 2026 World Environment Day.
Speaking during the event, the Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), Dr. Mustapha Lamorde, underscored the importance of environmental stewardship and the collective responsibility of individuals and organisations in safeguarding the environment.
Lamorde stressed the need for sustainable practices that support economic growth while ensuring the preservation of natural resources for future generations. He noted that environmental protection remains a critical component of the Commission’s regulatory mandate and aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable development.
According to him, achieving a balance between energy development and environmental conservation requires the active participation of all stakeholders, including government agencies, industry operators, communities and individuals.
The World Environment Day celebration featured a series of awareness activities designed to promote environmental consciousness among members of staff and strengthen the Commission’s commitment to health, safety, environmental protection and community development.
The Authority said the event reflects its dedication to implementing global best practices in environmental management while fostering a culture of sustainability within the organisation and across the energy sector.
World Environment Day is observed annually to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment and to promote sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
