The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has charged members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) not to betray the trust reposed in them by their constituents but to deliver quality and robust representation to the people.

Obaseki gave the charge when he received the outgoing 7th EDHA members and the incoming 8th EDHA members, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

He congratulated the members-elect for winning the Assembly elections and receiving their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging them to work with the executives to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

The governor said, “As we all are aware that you promised citizens of Edo and members of your constituencies that you will give them premium representation which we know will not be possible without collaboration with the executive.

“You will make the laws, come up with resolutions and matters that concern members of your constituency and hopefully, the executive will ensure that your request and proposals are carried out.

“It calls for close collaboration and good working relationships. So, we understand what you seek for your people and also understand from our own perspective the resources available and the intended programme that the executive also needs to deliver.

“That interaction, collaboration, and communication will help us understand what we need to do and prioritize to deliver to our citizens.”

Commending the seventh Assembly for its impressive performance in office, the governor noted that their performance has led to remarkable achievements in the area of infrastructure, education, economy, and other sectors of the State.

“For the members-elect, I am glad you went on a working tour of your facilities and offices in the Assembly. As a State, we are pushing for the utilization of technology for more efficiency. We are working on getting more technology to your chambers to ensure more productivity.

“The Edo State Civil Service now runs under the electronic platform. We are hoping to work with you and make the necessary investment and transmit documents easily between the executive and legislator.”

Earlier, the speaker Edo State House of Assembly Hon. Marcus Onobun thanked the governor for his support and collaboration with the seventh assembly, appealing the gesture to members of the eighth assembly.

He noted, “We spoke today, shared ideas, discussed, and are assuring you, Your Excellency, of a firebrand legislature that will help you finish strong.”
