Oyo/Osun Customs Controller Visits Olubadan, Seeks Stronger Traditional Support for Security and Economic Growth

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, on Sunday, 7 December 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, where he underscored the crucial role of traditional leadership in promoting security, peace, and economic prosperity.
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Aliyu expressed profound appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, and for the consistent support the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) continues to enjoy from the Palace and the people of Ibadan.
He noted that the visit was aimed at strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Command and the revered traditional institution.
Reaffirming the Service’s commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations, Comptroller Aliyu described Ibadan and its environs as a major commercial centre where significant economic activities converge with critical national security concerns.
“The Nigeria Customs Service recognizes the vital role traditional rulers play in sustaining peace, order, and community cooperation. We believe that with your continued support and guidance, our Command will remain effective in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests,” he stated.
The Comptroller appealed to the Olubadan to continue sensitizing the youth and business community against smuggling and other illegal activities that jeopardize national economic growth. He further assured that officers and men of the Command would remain respectful, professional, and responsive to the cultural values of host communities in fulfilling their duties.
Comptroller Aliyu also acknowledged the existing cooperation between the Command and the Olubadan’s Palace, noting that this synergy has been instrumental to the successes recorded in the region’s operations. He called for sustained collaboration to counter evolving smuggling tactics and maintain a secure environment that supports legitimate trade.
In his response, the Olubadan commended the Customs Area Controller for the visit and emphasized the need for the Service to intensify efforts toward securing Nigeria’s borders and protecting the nation from economic saboteurs.
