The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, has received renowned paediatrician, neonatologist and scholar, Professor Charles Osayande Eregie, who paid a courtesy visit to the hospital’s management.
Professor Eregie said the visit was to appreciate the management for its commitment to advancing quality healthcare delivery, medical education and research at the institution.
He also informed the management of his retirement and reflected on his recently held Legacy, Exit Seminar and Valedictory Lecture, which celebrated his years of service and contributions to academia, research and healthcare.
Eregie commended the leadership of the Chief Medical Director and acknowledged the progress recorded in strengthening healthcare services and institutional development at UBTH.
As part of the visit, Eregie donated two of his publications to the UBTH Medical Library.
The books are A Missed Change, his memoir, and TEA Triad in Neonatal and Breastfeeding Medicine, which introduces an innovative framework for strengthening research, evaluation and evidence-based healthcare practice.
He said the donation was aimed at supporting learning, research and continuous professional development among healthcare professionals and students.
Eregie also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in healthcare delivery, research, capacity building and neonatal health, while sharing ideas on ways to further strengthen the hospital’s impact.
Receiving the books on behalf of the hospital, Ize-Iyamu expressed appreciation to Eregie for the gesture and his enduring commitment to advancing knowledge through scholarship.
She noted that the publications would enrich the hospital’s library resources and serve as valuable reference materials for healthcare professionals, researchers and students.
The Chief Medical Director reaffirmed UBTH’s commitment to fostering strategic collaborations that promote excellence in patient care, research and medical education.
