Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the vandalisation of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
Sanwo-Olu condemned the incident, describing vandalism of critical infrastructure as “barbaric and criminal” and warning that Lagos State would not tolerate such acts.
The Governor said officials of the Office of Infrastructure who inspected the bridge had confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.
He, however, directed that remedial work be carried out immediately to protect the bridge columns and prevent further damage.
According to him, anyone found culpable in the incident will face the full weight of the law.
“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities,” the Governor said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and protect public infrastructure by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that safeguarding public facilities was a collective responsibility, as government infrastructure serves the needs of residents and supports economic activities across the state.
The statement was signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
