
The Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria ( SCAN) has congratulated Comrade Francis Bunu on his election as the President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
Bunu was unanimously elected unopposed alongside new national executives during the union’s 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference held in Festac Town, Lagos on March 28,2024.
In a statement issued by its President, Moses Ebosele and Secretary, Shulammite Olowofoyeku in Lagos on Thursday, SCAN commended MWUN for conducting a peaceful and successful
election.
The maritime journalist group noted that Bunu’s unanimous victory reflects the confidence Union members have in his leadership abilities.
SCAN also recognized the significant contributions of the immediate past President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, whose efforts it said played a crucial role in Bunu’s successful campaign.
Recognising the vital role MWUN plays in the maritime sector, SCAN expressed optimism for a strengthened and collaborative relationship with MWUN under Bunu’s leadership.
“It is with immense joy that the Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria ( wishes to profoundly congratulate you on your emergence as the President General of MWUN at the just concluded 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference.
“Your victory did not come to us as a surprise, considering your wide acceptability amongst members of the Union across the country. Its indeed a reward for your dedication and perseverance which you have undoubtedly demonstrated in serving the Union for over two decades,” the statement said.
SCAN expressed confidence in Bunu’s ability to sustain and improve the legacies of his predecessor, pledging to work closely with him to build a formidable media presence for the benefit of both the Union and the country.
The SCAN President also acknowledged MWUN’s support towards the SCAN’s Dockworker’s Day and assured Bunu of the association’s commitment to future collaborations.
