Seplat Energy Plc has announced the successful elimination of routine gas flaring across all its onshore operations in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the company’s drive towards cleaner energy production and environmental sustainability.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Mr. Samson Ezugworie, disclosed this on Sunday in Benin during a media parley, describing the achievement as a landmark not only for Nigeria but also within the global energy industry.
According to Ezugworie, Seplat attained the target by the end of 2025 across both its western and eastern onshore assets.
“I will make bold to say that in our operations in the onshore business that we have, both western assets and eastern assets, we actually achieved the end of routine flaring in all our onshore operations as of the end of last year,” he said.
He explained that ending routine gas flaring underscores Seplat Energy’s commitment to responsible energy production while contributing to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable development.
Beyond gas flaring reduction, Ezugworie said the company is also making strategic investments in Nigeria’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) value chain to boost the availability of cooking gas and improve access for households.
He revealed that Seplat has established an LPG processing plant in Sapele, Delta State, adding that the facility commenced distribution activities on April 20, 2026, when the first trucks loaded with LPG cylinders departed the plant.
“We are committed to contributing to LPG and cooking gas in the country. We already have the plant in Sapele. The plant is not somewhere else but in our area of operation.
“Again, all these are actually borne out of the fact that we are committed to the things we say.
“One of our key mantras in Seplat is integrity. One of our core values is integrity, and integrity only says the gap between what you say and what you do should not be there,” he said.
Ezugworie noted that the company’s investments in cleaner energy infrastructure reflect its determination to align its operations with its corporate values while supporting Nigeria’s energy transition through increased domestic gas utilisation and improved access to cleaner cooking fuel.
