The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has commissioned a 250-seater conference centre at its North Central Zonal Office in Jos, Plateau State, naming the new facility in honour of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. George Akume.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Akume lauded the Shippers’ Council and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for their vision and dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime and logistics ecosystem.

“This edifice is not just a building; it is a statement of vision, a testament to commitment, and a reflection of the renewed energy driving Nigeria’s port and logistics system under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akume stated.
He emphasized that economic development across the world is anchored on sound infrastructure, describing efficient ports, railways, roads, and inland dry ports as “the arteries through which the lifeblood of commerce flows.”
The SGF reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination, under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to intensify investments in critical transport and trade infrastructure across all regions of the country — from coastal areas to the hinterlands — to enhance connectivity, competitiveness, and national productivity.
The new conference centre, according to the Shippers’ Council, is designed to support stakeholder engagements, capacity-building programmes, and regional coordination in the North Central Zone, contributing to the Council’s broader goal of improving trade facilitation and logistics efficiency nationwide.
