The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Ease of Doing Business (EODB), Dr Jumoke Oduwole, has advised Sokoto state government to enhance modalities for information dissemination regarding business potentialities across the state.
Oduwole, made the suggestion at the commissioning of a ”One-Stop Shop” on EODB in Sokoto on Thursday.
She commended Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal for establishing the center in the state.
According to her, in spite of the state government efforts in the area of Ease of Business, not much is being echoed to the outside world in terms of business potentialities of the Sokoto State.
In his address, Tambuwal explained that he set up an Ease of Doing Business Council (EODBC) which he chair, to reposition the economy of Sokoto state.
Tambuwal noted that the EODBC, which was an adoption of the recommendations of the National Economic Council (NEC), will meet monthly and brief the State Economic Council quarterly.
The governor directed the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bashir Gidado-Jegawa, to serve as the State Reform Champion on EODB.
According to him, the Commissioner would be liaising with the national office on behalf of the state, as well as coordinate ease of doing business activities in the state.
”The EODBC has a Secretariat at the One-Stop Shop commissioned, where “both federal and state agencies involved in regulatory certification, registration and revenue generation will be under one roof”.
Tambuwal added that “the intent of creating this center is, to help businessmen and women to navigate these agencies, to seek for information, advisory services, registration/renewal of permits, certification and payment of taxes with ease.”
He further noted that the commissioning of the shop was a way of complementing the federal government’s ease of doing business intiative.
He stressed that already the state government has since created the Sokoto Geographical Information Service (SOGIS), repositioned the state Urban and Regional Planning Board, embarked on the building of a database on business premises and transformed the state’s internal revenue services to fast track business formations and transactions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigerian Shippers Council, Nigerian Custom Service, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Standard Organization of Nigeria, National Agency for Food Drugs, Administration and Control and other agencies have offices at the centernan.
