The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has hosted a bilateral meeting with a delegation from the China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS) to strengthen technical cooperation in standardisation, energy efficiency and sustainable development.
The meeting, held at the SON Headquarters in Abuja, with both physical and virtual participation, focused on the China-Africa Centre for Standardization Cooperation and Research and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS).
Representing the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, the Chief of Staff, Mr Uchenna Okafor, welcomed the CNIS delegation and underscored the importance of the engagement to strengthening technical capacity, standards development, innovation, trade and energy efficiency.
The technical sessions featured presentations and discussions on China’s standards system, the China-Africa Centre for Standardization Cooperation and Research, SON’s Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme, testing protocols, compliance monitoring and market surveillance.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange technical knowledge and explore areas for deeper collaboration in standards development and energy efficiency.
At the conclusion of the meeting, SON and CNIS reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation through technical research, capacity building, alignment of energy-efficiency standards and participation in international standardisation activities.
Both sides also agreed to pursue further engagements under the proposed cooperation framework.
