President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their commanding 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa Playoff match, describing the performance as a powerful demonstration of the Nigerian spirit — one that “rises, adapts, and prevails.”
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the players for exhibiting courage, balance, and precision throughout the encounter. He noted that football has long served as one of Nigeria’s strongest symbols of unity and collective pride, adding that the latest win further reinforces the nation’s shared aspiration for World Cup qualification.
The President commended the players, coaching staff, and the entire technical and administrative team for their steadfast commitment, saying their dedication has once again brought honour to the country. He emphasized that the victory underscores Nigeria’s deep reservoir of football talent and the determination of the Super Eagles to reestablish themselves among Africa’s elite.
President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to millions of Nigerian supporters at home and abroad, whose unwavering passion continues to serve as a source of motivation for the team, especially during pivotal moments in international competitions.
Urging the squad to sustain the momentum, the President called on the players to remain focused as the qualifiers progress. He reminded them that each match is another opportunity to display discipline, character, and the nation’s unshakable ambition.
“This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure a qualification. Super Eagles, keep soaring. The nation stands with you!” President Tinubu said.
