CITING oil spill and fresh excavation on the pipeline’s right of way, the management of Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited has stopped the expedition of crude on its Obagi-Rumuekpe 12 oil export pipeline.
In a statement signed by its Deputy General Manager, Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Charles Ogan, the company explained that oil spill was discovered when oil expedited from Obagi was not received at Rumuekpe metering station.The company explained that the situation is abnormal, adding that it was noticed after a helicopter overflight was carried out within the area.
Total said: “Total E&P Nigeria Limited has stopped expedition of crude on its Obagi-Rumuekpe 12” oil export pipeline in Rivers State.
“During crude oil expedition operation on 16th of August 2015, an abnormal situation was observed as the oil expedited from Obagi was not received at Rumuekpe metering station. Expedition was immediately stopped and a helicopter overflight was carried out, which revealed oil spill and fresh excavations on the pipeline’s right of way.”
