Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new Taigo Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) coupe.
Volkswagen Taigo is the first SUV coupe by the brand to drive in the European roads. The company has already launched the compact crossover SUV as Nivus in South America and Mexico. It is based on the MQB-A0 platform, derived from the Indian-market Volkswagen Taigun.
Taigo is similar in positioning to the Volkswagen T-Cross which is on sale in Western Europe. It carries a ‘sporty and vibrant’ look along with a ‘peculiar character’ with a lower, coupe-style roofline.
In terms of exterior appearance, Tiago features a crossover body style. The rear of the model slopes backward in the style of a coupe, without compromising on the headroom of the back.
Taigo also offers the new IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and an illuminated radiator grill crossbar. The LED strip at the rear runs over the width with the Volkswagen logo placed at the centre.
Moving to the cabin, the Taigo gets a multifunctional steering wheel and modern control elements as standard. The infotainment systems are based on the third generation of MIB3, including an online control unit (eSIM) and “App-Connect Wireless”. Other features include access to streaming services, natural voice control and cloud-based personalisation.
In terms of safety and assistance, Taigo embedded the features like the surroundings monitoring system, city emergency brake function, and the lane departure warning system.
The company also offers “IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist” as an optional feature that enables semi-automated driving up to a system-determined top speed of 210 km/h.
With Taigo, Volkswagen targets to attract young customers by its design which is inspired by SUV coupés in higher vehicle classes. The 2022 Volkswagen Taigo will be produced in Spain and will be delivered to all over the Europe.
