The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr Abdullahi Bello, has advised staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.
Bello gave the advice during an enlightenment session on good governance and ethical conduct for NDDC staff in Port Harcourt, stressing that ignorance of the law would not serve as an excuse for offenders.
He called for sustained efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and professionalism within the Commission, noting that asset declaration is mandatory for all public servants.
“Asset declaration is not optional but an obligation that must be fulfilled by all public servants,” Bello said, urging staff to properly complete and submit their Code of Conduct forms to avoid sanctions.
He explained that the Bureau was not set up to victimise public servants but to educate and enforce compliance with ethical standards and relevant laws.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, described ethical conduct as the bedrock of good governance, adding that the Commission remains committed to transparency and accountability in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu.
Ogbuku disclosed that the Commission is already implementing a Governance Advisory Report aimed at consolidating its performance and repositioning it for greater impact.
According to him, the report will facilitate NDDC’s transition from a transactional approach to a transformational one, while strengthening adherence to its Standard Operating Procedures and code of conduct.
He noted that the enlightenment programme would enhance internal cohesion, collaboration, and mutual accountability among staff, ultimately improving efficiency and service delivery across the Niger Delta region.
“The foundation of the NDDC was laid long ago and is now being strengthened. Whatever we are doing today aligns with the policies of the Federal Government,” Ogbuku stated.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, said the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to reorient staff towards a culture of transparency and integrity.
Represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Sir Kelechi Nwelue, Iyaye emphasised the need for strict compliance with civil service rules, financial regulations, and other extant laws.
He added that the programme would help rekindle staff commitment and position them as champions of transparency at all levels of the Commission’s operations.
