Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
Fubara gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Adeleye Falade, during a courtesy visit at Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor emphasised that the success of NLNG is directly tied to the success of Rivers State and the Federal Government, noting that his administration would continue to play its part in ensuring the company thrives.
“Our duty is to support operators within our state. If you succeed, we succeed, and ultimately the nation benefits. So you can always count on our support,” he said, adding that all relevant arms of government would collaborate with the company whenever necessary.
Fubara also credited NLNG’s sustained performance over the years to its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which he said has enabled efficient risk-sharing, cost management, and the deployment of technical expertise.
He highlighted the company’s ownership structure, noting that Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation holds 49 per cent, Shell Gas B.V. owns 25.6 per cent, Total LNG Nigeria Ltd has 15 per cent, while Eni International controls 10.4 per cent.
According to him, the Federal Government’s decision to allow experienced multinational firms manage operations, while it maintains regulatory oversight, has been key to NLNG’s resilience and long-term growth despite challenging business conditions.
“I’m proud to say that NLNG remains one of the most resilient organisations in the country. The model is simple—government plays a supervisory role while experts handle operations. That is why the company continues to record success,” he added.
Earlier, Falade commended the Rivers State Government for its continued support and called for sustained collaboration to deepen the relationship between both parties.
“We value the enabling environment provided by the state government. Rivers State remains central to NLNG’s commitment to Nigeria’s development,” he said.
The NLNG boss also highlighted the company’s impact on host communities, noting that areas such as Amadi-ama, Abua, Ekpeye, Okrika, Kalabari, and Emohua have benefitted from various development initiatives.
He added that beyond infrastructure, the company has continued to invest in economic empowerment through programmes like the Vocational Innovation and Business Empowerment Scheme (VIBES) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) initiatives, aimed at supporting small businesses and stimulating local economic growth across the state.
