Ikeja Electric Marks Children’s Day With Safety Education, Learning Support For Pupils In Lagos

Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) has celebrated this year’s Children’s Day by carrying out an educational outreach programme in selected public primary schools within its franchise area, combining electricity safety awareness with academic support for young learners.
The initiative, which was executed under the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (P-CSR) framework through its Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), took the power distribution company to C.M.S. Primary School and Howells Nursery and Primary School in the Bariga community of Lagos.
During the outreach, pupils participated in practical electricity safety sessions, interactive learning activities and received educational materials aimed at enhancing their academic development.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, the programme was designed to merge critical safety advocacy with educational support, while reinforcing Ikeja Electric’s commitment to community development and the nurturing of responsible future citizens.
Speaking during the event, Okotie stressed the importance of educating children about electricity safety from an early age.
“Every child deserves not just access to education, but the knowledge to stay safe in their everyday environment. Electricity is a vital part of modern life, and helping children understand how to engage with it safely is one of the most powerful ways we can protect their future,” he said.
He noted that the initiative goes beyond corporate social responsibility, describing it as an investment in the future of host communities.
“For us at Ikeja Electric, this is bigger than a CSR activity; it is an investment in the future of our communities. When we step into classrooms like those in Bariga, we are not just sharing safety tips; we are shaping mindsets, building awareness and inspiring young minds to dream bigger and learn better,” Okotie added.
He further emphasized the link between community engagement and sustainable development, stating that host communities remain central to the company’s operations, while children represent the heartbeat of those communities.
According to him, providing young people with safety knowledge and educational resources helps reduce domestic electrical accidents and promotes civic responsibility among future generations.
“Ikeja Electric will continue to look beyond the power grid to ignite sustainable social growth, ensuring our business footprint leaves a legacy of empowered, enlightened and protected minds,” he said.
The sessions were delivered in an engaging and age-appropriate format, allowing pupils to ask questions, share experiences and learn practical measures for staying safe around electricity. Topics covered included identifying electrical hazards, safe practices at home and school, and appropriate actions during electrical emergencies.
Management of the beneficiary schools commended Ikeja Electric for the intervention, expressing appreciation for the company’s commitment to public safety education. They noted that equipping children with life-saving knowledge would have a positive ripple effect on families and communities, extending the impact beyond the classroom.
